8912B Lesson Overview

Elements and Principles of Design
Elements and principles of design make up the art and science of landscape design. The same design elements and principles found in works of art also apply to landscape design. Described in this lesson are the design elements of line, form, texture, and color. These design elements serve as guidelines in the development of the design principles of focalization, proportion and scale, balance, order and unity, repetition, rhythm and sequence, and interconnection. Each of these design principles is important in the development of functional and aesthetically pleasing landscape designs.
